A man from Galesburg, who dedicated much of his professional life to the retail industry and was known for owning a well-liked video rental shop, has passed away.

Jack Oakley, the longtime owner and operator of Titletown Video located at 991 N. Henderson St., passed away on Wednesday at his residence in Galesburg. He was 89 years old.

Oakley also worked as a manager for more than  11 years for the former Montgomery Ward Department Store. 

Oakley completed his high school education at Galesburg High School in 1953. Following that, he went on to study at Western Illinois University before earning his degree from Elkhart University located in Elkhart, Indiana. Additionally, he was a member of the US Army, serving from 1956 to 1958.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dorothy from Galesburg; their children, Julia A. (Thomas) Komaniecki residing in Somonauk, Illinois, and John E. (Connie) Oakley living in Colorado Springs, Colorado, along with his grandson, Dylan Oakley.

The graveside service for Jack Oakley will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
